American Masters Perform at Masters World Roads

Published: 09/02/2003

ST. JOHANN, Austria — Adding to the overwhelming medal count achieved by American masters at the recent World Mountain Bike Championships in Bromont, Canada, their counterparts on the pavement also enjoyed recent success at the 2003 Masters Road World Championships in St. Johann, Austria over the weekend.

Two world titles were claimed in the Time Trial as Richard Feldmen (men 30-39) and David Grice (men 40-44) each brought home gold medals. Feldmen posted a time of 24:49.73” over the 20km course, 15 seconds faster than his nearest challenger, Pasi Ahlroos (FIN) while Grice clocked a 25:25.19” to claim the win ahead of Marco Lusini (ITA) by a margin of ten seconds. The course, a relatively flat, out-and-back route between Erpfendorfroute and Lofererberg also yielded two more medals, a sliver and bronze, for Americans.

In the road race, Team USA captured five medals. Cynthia Carroll (women 40-44), Randy Parker (men 45-49), and Dietrich Lamprecht (men 75+) took silver medals and Wendy Kuhn (women 40-44) took bronze.

Elaine Miller was the sole double medallist for Team USA who took silver in the time trial (women 50+) and bronze in the road race (women 50-59).
