Spring Classic at Perinton Preview

UPSTATE NEW YORK REGION RACE PREVIEW

A Preferred Care Rider Shows
His Effort Climbing Furman Hill
PERINTON, NY -- The Perinton Spring Classic circuit race is slated for April 23rd, 2006. This is one of Upstate NY's "spring classics" and has been a fantastic race year after year. The Spring Classic at Perinton is a super course nestled in the suburbs southeast of Rochester, NY. Primarily rolling, there is one relatively steepish but short climb out of a 90 degree corner. A long gradual uphill finishing sprint can really put the hurt on those who decide to jump too early.

With a course that is just under 6 miles, the elite race (pro/1/2/3) will see this course 9 times, for a total of 54 miles. At 48 miles, the category "3 only" race will see 8 times up Furman Hill, a solid little brick to the legs every lap. The category 4's and Masters 40+ do 7 laps each at 42 miles (Go ahead, ask Todd what he thinks about the typical 35 year old masters fields!). The open women's race and category 5/citizens races will both do the course 4 times, for a total of 32 miles.

Spring Classic at Perinton Course Profile.
Notice Furman Hill climbs ~100 feet in about a quarter mile.
Also notice that the finishing straight climbs 50 feet.

Profile peaks are exaggerated.

Best Viewing For Spectators
There are really three fantastic viewing points on the course.
  1. Our favorite is at the top of "Furman Hill". See what Todd has to say about this in his letter below.
  2. SpokePost picks the finishing straight as our favorite viewing area #2. You really can't beat the energy of the finish area. I mean what is a bike race without seeing riders duke it out for the finish?
  3. Our third favorite place to watch the race, is on a bicycle riding back-and-forth between the corners of Wakeman and Whitney Road East and the intersection of Whitney Road and Monroe-Wayne County Line Road, so you can see your favorite riders go through twice as many times (if you're fast!)

A Letter From The Promoter...
The Perinton Classic on April 23, 2006 is one of NYs best spring races and 2006 is prepared to continue that tradition! The course with its “Furman Hill” and many rollers has long been established as a challenge to all categories, and the race always features one of the best spring-race prize lists in the region! In recent years, the Perinton Classic has drawn riders from all over NY, PA and Ontario Canada and the spectators grow in number each year as well – especially to see the riders of all abilities charge into Furman!

Registration is open on BikeReg.com and races start at 10:10 – don’t be late! Visit http://gvcc.11net.com for a flyer and more information. Don’t miss this classic tradition to test your early season fitness against some of the regions best riders.
